Roche, one of the world's leading research-focused healthcare groups in the fields of pharmaceuticals and diagnostics, is seeking a patent agent to join our intellectual property team to focus on preparation and prosecution of patent applications worldwide. Position will involve working closely with patent attorneys, scientists and management to create and secure protection for intellectual property for inventions and discoveries made by or licensed to Ventana Medical Systems.
Responsibilities:
• Prepare, file and prosecute patent applications worldwide
• Provide active oversight of patent application drafting, filing and prosecution being performed by outside counsel (including foreign associates).
• Collaborate with inventors and other personnel as needed to prepare, file and prosecute patent applications.
• Participate in the making of decisions to file, maintain, or abandon patents and patent applications.
• Support patent attorneys with intellectual property opinion work and intellectual property landscaping efforts.
• Provide litigation support in patent enforcement and/or defense actions.
• Educate internal clients regarding patenting process.
Requirements:
• Undergraduate degree in one of the following: Chemistry, physics, biomedical engineering or other related scientific discipline; advanced degree is strongly preferred.
• Licensed to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
• At least four years experience in intellectual property practice, including experience drafting and prosecuting U.S., foreign, and international (PCT) patent applications and experience assisting responsible attorneys with patentability, freedom-to-operate, validity, and non infringement opinions; some law firm experience is preferred.
• Familiarity with relevant scientific and intellectual property databases and use of same.
• Excellent writing, analytical, and computer skills.
• Organized, creative, detail oriented, capable of working under pressure and on multiple tasks, and must be able to timely meet deadlines.
• Enthusiastic with ability to engender client trust and confidence, and ability to take a reasoned position and defend it in the face of opposition. Works well as part of a team.
