I’m happy to report that my wife gave birth yesterday to a big healthy boy (9 lb 12 oz). We’re calling him Charley after his grandfather who died last June. Most of the posts for the next two weeks will be written by several guest authors. I suspect that you will enjoy the change of pace. On a similar note: For those of you trying to contact me the past few weeks, I apologize for being nonresponsive. Dennis Crouch

Congratulations Dennis and family!
If Charley is your first, then it's the end of the world as you know it - but in a good way!
Enjoy!

I hope you and your wife get enough sleep to remain sane.
Parenthood is awesome.

As M. Samardzija says, "parenthood is awesome"
Enjoy every minute because before you know it, Charley will be off to college and adulthood.

Welcome to the circus, Charley!
Don't rush to grow up. By the time you're ready to take the patent bar exam, the USSCt will be no closer to sorting out obivousness than they were in Hotchkiss, 1850.
(One of the George Carlin lines circulating this week: "Being born into this world is like getting a ticket to a freak show. Being born in the USA is like getting a front row seat.")
Kudos, Dennis & Co.

Dear Dennis [& Ms. Crouch too],
Congratulations.
I wish the baby, the best of health and wealth.
I am sure he will bring a lot of happiness to you family.
Being the father of a 3 year old boy, I can say the following:
"Baby boys are very troublesome for the first 3 years..
.
.
.
.
After that you resign to FATE."
Regards,
Sandeep [GenericIPguy].

congratulations Dennis!
"Charley Crouch" has a nice ring to it. Has future baseball legend, writer, and/or brain surgeon, or, heaven forfend, patent attorney, written all over him.

We need good news.
Too many depressing stuff going on, you know...oil price is raising, stock is dropping, comments from E6k are endless...."sight"..

Congratulations on the new baby. Charley will truly change your life. My suggestion is to watch all of the "real movies" that you can before Charley gets to the age where he wants to watch too. From that point on, you are in for years of nothing but singing animal movies!

Congratulation and best wishes to you and your family, Dennis.
The birth of one's own child (or a successful adoption) is like a new awakening, a portal to a whole new and exciting way of viewing, experiencing, and enjoying life...learning what is really important in life...
...I will not, however, be offering any "enjoy the vacation" type wishes, as "a new child" and "vacation" have nothing at all to do with each other. :-)
Please do not hurry back.
We'll all still be here raking each other over the coals when you get back.

Dennis,
Mazel Tov, as we say.
When you post pictures of Charley (as any new papa eventually will), your numerous readers will get to observe firsthand a novel, original, nonobvious and ornamental design!
Best to you and your family.

And if some features of Charley are not that attractive you can show them in dotted lines in the pictures.

As a father twice over and a grandfather twice over, I have but one simple piece of advice. Enjoy every minute and don't ever "wish" for the next phase or stage. Too many parents just keep thinking, "If we could just get this kid to sleep through the night. If we could just get this kid potty trained. If we could just get this kid to bathe himself. If we could just . . . ." Pretty soon, you've "wished" him away and he's off to college. Enjoy every minute. Take it from someone who's been there.

'Enjoy every minute and don't ever "wish" for the next phase or stage.' As a mother of two, now both college graduates, I totally agree! Each age has its own charms and its own, uh, challenges. Try to enjoy them all. Best wishes to you, your wife, and, of course, Charley.

Congratulations and best wishes to you and your wife, and very best wishes to Charley.
One of the nicest things about having a family is being reminded through your children of your own childhood - but with a fresh perspective and greater understanding. Enjoy!
